All cats lose hair sheddingbut alopecia is thought as an excessive lack of hair. Here are some possible causes: Itchy Flea allergy dermatitis – Allergy to the saliva from the flea bite. Food allergy – Allergy to a protein in food.
Fish, beef, and chicken are the most typical factors behind food allergy. Inhalant allergy – Allergy to an inhalant such as for example tobacco smoke. Notoedric mange – Mange due to spider-like parasites.
Ear mites – Tiny spider-like parasites which reside in and around the ears leading to extreme itching. Psychogenic – Compulsive over-grooming. Pyoderma – Infection of your skin.
Abscess – Walled off assortment of pus positioned in the tissue. Usually, the reason is a cat bite. Non-itchy Hyperthyroidism – the effect of a benign tumour of the thyroid gland Usually. Stress – Surgery, new pet, newborn, illness etc. Ringworm – Fungal infection. Drug reaction topical, injected. Telogen defluxion – Hair thinning which occurs through the resting phase of the hair regrowth cycle. Anagen defluxion -Hair loss which occurs through the growing phase. Sunburn Seborrhea – Excess secretion of sebum.
Stud tail – Hypersecretion of the glands located at the bottom of the tail, males are most affected commonly. Diagnosis Your veterinarian will perform a complete physical pay and examination attention to the location, size, and form of the hair thinning if any other symptoms are also present and acquire a health background from you.
Diagnostic workup Fungus culture – To consider ringworm. Trichogram – That is a microscopic study of the hair root. Broken tips indicate that the hair thinning is self-induced. Food elimination trial – Your veterinarian shall place your cat on a food trial which often lasts between weeks. During this time, you mustn’t give your cat any other food stuffs, vitamins, minerals or chewable medications from the recommended diet apart.
If the allergy clears up following the specified time a food allergy may be the likely cause then. The diet could be homemade or a prescription diet. Skin scrapings – They are studied under a microscope to consider mites. Treatment Treatment depends upon the underlying reason behind the alopecia and could include. Ringworm – Lime sulfur dips, anti-fungal drugs. Food allergies – Switching to a novel or low allergenic diet. Hyperthyroidism – Radioactive iodine to destroy the tumour or surgery to eliminate it accompanied by lifelong replacement of thyroid hormones.
Inhalant allergy – Avoidance of the allergen when possible. Notoedric mange – Clipping, weekly lime sulfur dips, Revolution. Ear mites – Removal of the exudates, an insecticide such as for example Revolution. Psychogenic – Behaviour modification, maintaining your cat in a stress-free drug and environment therapy if other methods fail. Pyoderma – Antibiotics and clipping the affected area. Abscess – Draining of the antibiotics and abscess. Feline acquired symmetrical alopecia – Hormones, although not absolutely all veterinarians recommend this.
Drug reaction – Switching or discontinuing medications. Seborrhea – Shampoos, omega-3 essential fatty acids, antibiotics. Stud tail – Antiseborrheic shampoos, neutering where possible. Sunburn – Topical or oral pain and corticosteroids killers where necessary.
could you PLEASE make a video about Feline Hyperesthesia?? Not much people know about this and the first thing vets try to do is get your cat on heavy depression meds and stuff like that… please help!!
Good suggestion- here is more good info on this..
I have itching problems…
Hey doc trust all is well with you; I was wondering if you can recommend a topical treatment for mid age (10 year ) old cats, they chew all over their body. One male had chewed sores on the tail and spine area, they have gotten better lately. No fleas to speak of I use advantage, sometimes Iโd say they chew out of boredom though Iโm sure thatโs not the case. Also please advise as to how to apply things on the body and ears, Iโm not proficient in the kitty burrito wrap, nor are the beasties ignorant of my ways. Thank you till later David Yovu
PS my friend raises dogs and uses ivamac to prevent and deter, what seems like everything. Could this work with the cats, his animals never get heart worms , fleas , mites , ticks anything. We live in Ga, 30 miles from Fla line. Have a great day
CBD in the morning ๐
I am in the UK. We have canned food and sachets. I have met 4 people who lost their cats to cancer, and all gave them canned food. I read that the bisphenol lining on the tins is carcinogenic to cats, so I only buy cat food in sachets. I would be grateful for your opinion if possible.
how is the CBD oil processed? CO2 or chemical? Is the CBD oil 3rd party tested? (Dr. Jones Ultimate CBD Formula for Dogs and Cats by NuLeaf (240mg) )
Yes, its 3rd part tested and processed through CO2. For more info, you can visit this site:
Thanks for the tips Dr Jones.

ITCHING 99.9% OF THE TIME IS JUST FLEES. IF YOUR CAT IS OUTDOORS IT WILL HAVE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FLEAS. KEEP IT INDOORS, NO MORE FLEAS AFTER TREATING IT FOR 3 MONTHS.
@Susan Spencer VERY TRUR ON THE WASHING IN HOT, HOT, HOT WATER. (BUT) TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, IT ONLY TAKES ONE, DID I SAY ONE FLEA TO DRIVE SOME ANIMALS NUTS. AND YOU TO. AFTER 40 YEARS IN ANIMAL RESQUE YOU CANT POSSIBLY GET AWAY FROM ADVANTAGE FLEE TREATMENT ONCE A MONTH ALL SUMMER UNTIL THE FIRST FREEZE AND THEN NONE IS REQUIRED UNTIL APRIL. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A FLEA IN THE WINTER WEARING A COAT THAT AND BOOTS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SINCE FOREVER…IF YOUR HOUSE IS FLEA INFESTED IT CAN TAKE ALL WINTER OF TREATING THE ANIMALS TILL SUMMER AGAIN. FLEAS ARE A BITCH, NOT FUN…THANKS..
Actually I am here to tell you all, that this Dr. Is correct in all he says!!! Our Cat is itching extremely bad. Theres no more Flees here!!! We Bombed our Home for Flees & Flee Eggs!!!, Tics, & Spiders!!!
Then my Husband Vacumed everyday, cleaned the Vacume out, & I washed ALL of our Bedding, our Towels, our Clothes in HOT HOT HOT SOAPY WATER!!! & 1 Cup Clorox Bleach in our Washer for our Whites, Sheets, Pillow Slips, Blankets, Socks, Underwear, & all our Blue Jeans & Shirts with HOT HOT HOT Water, & in 2 days we noticed a big difference!!! Just keep washing everything in Hot Water, & youll feel better & better in time!!! Keep Vacuuming too. The days will pass quickly, and as back up we also bought Calamine Lotion, & Benadryl take 2 caps every night & when on Riding Lawn Mower, youll finailly feel great.
And PRAY DAILY.๐๐พ๐พ๐๐พ๐พ๐๐พ๐พ๐WE only have 1 Kitty.
Cats are sentient beings, not inanimate objects. They have just as much gender as you do.
good video dr jones hopefully i wont have to use it .gotta love murray grumpy attitude makes me laugh lol
Hi love your videos! I just subscribed recently and it is so nice of you to make these videos for us! Can you please make a video on your opinion on bladder blockages in cats and how to prevent it? My cat recently had to be put down due to recurring bladder blockages and after several vet visits the vet decided he had to be out down as he was dying. I am so sad & heart broken over this and I have 3 remaining cats and I would appreciate any advice you have on bladder blockages in cats. Thank you! ๐
Will these remedies help my small dogs and is the dose the same?
Hi. Please check my videos on dog allergies.
If my 7 month old cat sneezes often, does that mean he has an allergy? We gave him an antibiotic a couple of months ago before he was neutered and it helped, but he still sneezes now and then.
Thank you so much for posting this. Ive subscribed and am about to go put some coconut oil on my itchy kitty before bed. Ill be getting the licorice tincture and nettle tomorrow. Namaste!
Thanks for watching and welcome to my channel!

Ive been thinking of contacting you with this issue. About two months ago I bought flea collars for my three cats, when that didnt work I bought the pills that they ingested to get rid of the fleas and yes it worked but at this point my youngest and largest cat developed scabs around his mouth and under his chin and down his neck. So Ive kept him off the flea medicine but it hasnt been very long Im going wait another month or two and see if not getting the medicine makes the itching go awayif it doesnt go away Ill try one of your remedies Im also going to give him L-Lysine
@Veterinary Secrets I dont know I dont really think it was a reaction to the fleas themselves I think it was more of a reaction to the products I was putting on him… It started right after I put that liquid on the back of his neck… He was scratching andgoing a little nuts so I took him right to the bathroom put him in the sink with some Dawn dish soap and washed it off.. so then I decided to try a flea collar… Thats when I noticed the scabs under his neck so I took that off. At the beginning of this month I gave all three of them the oral pills and it works but he still has the scabs so my plan is to give those pills toy my other cats but not him and see if those scabs will disappear
Hi- still likely a Flea allergy with fleas in the house. Ensure that you also treat the house
Im posting a comment about kidney failure i commented this already on one of your videos i just wanna make sure i can get some answers soon as possible
So my cat isnt even 3 yet he has what seems to be chronic kidney failure hes still jumping on tables and stuff clearly not as energetic as our other cat but still enough energy to not even look sick accept for when he wont eat or drink so we have to force feed chaos the vet said his blood sugar is high because of the kidney failure i looked it up and found thats possible but also found that kidney failure can be caused by diabetes so my question is if he is diabetic and the kidney failure is basically organ failure does he have a better chance? And if he is diabetic could it be missed as well if kidney failure is happening? Basically asking if he is diabetic and he is treated for organ failure caused by it does he have a better chance then if it was just kidney failure alone were already being told we should put him down
And are there any other sicknesses that a vet might misdiagnose as kidney failure in cats that looks the same but is completely curable?
Veterinary Secrets we are and we are seeing another vet as well for another look to get a second opinion what else could it be if not kidney failure or diabetes and thanks for the quick reply also whats a good way to force feed when necessary?
Hi- yes first you need to determine what is the primary disease, and focus on that. I would wonder about it being primary diabetes. Please see your vet again.
My cat hates coconut oil and seems to know when am about to use it on him.
Theres alot of hide and seek in the house during this time.

What can I do for my elderly cat (19yrs) she constantly licks herself. I ha e 4 others cats and a dog, none of them have skin issues. She licks until she bare skin, no sores but clumps of hair where she likes to lay. Any holistic remedies you can offer, only bc she is getting so old, still feisty thought! Thanks!!!
Ask your vet about melatonin. 1/2 of a 2mg tablet twice daily
Hi great information…thanks๐
In one of your other videos you recommended stinging nettle to be applied topically. You mentioned it was a natural antihistamine. My cat has suffered from what the vet thought was upper respiratory issues for years, my cat is 19 yrs old. As he has gotten older, he is constantly with a congested stuffy nose and he would end up with an infection. I have tried everything, treatments with cold laser, chiropractor treatments, neuro allergy treatment, energy frequency treatments, as well as taking him to the vet and putting him on antibiotics. These treatments help some but it didnt eliminate the issue. My cat is a very good patient and tolerated all the treatments very well. I decided to try stinging needle to treat My Cat stuffy nose. I simply made a tea from stinging nettle. I let it cool and I syringed a small dose three times a day for 2 days. My cat showed an immediate Improvement. His nose was not stuffy and he wasnt having to breathe out of his mouth. Ive reduce the stinging nettle to once a day and it has kept him free of a stuffy congested drippy nose! I control the infection from the stuffy nose with colloidal silver. Thank you thank you!
That;s great! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Gonna try some or all of these suggestions. Hope one works. Thank you.
You can try one at a time so youll know which one worked. Let me know how it goes.
my cat victor is old and i believe he has fiv or a on going upper respiratory infection he has a oozing behind the ear area its been like that for months and we give him benadryl and we put vaseline on it and he keeps scratching it and right before it gets better he scratches the crap outta it and it bleeds what do i do we have took him to the vet 3 times and hes still not getting better they just give him meds and say its an upper respiratory infection then send us on our way idk what to do please help!
@Veterinary Secrets my vet has no idea what they are doing and every time we take victor to the vet they just give him meds and it makes it worse could it be a disease?
Please see your vet

I love your videos, and have been searching for one that is specifically for natural remedys for cat asthma. My 2 1/2 year old female cat, Marley, has asthma and right now I have her on Jackson Galaxy Easy Breather and Lysine. Ive tried other remedies as well. I have two air purifiers in the house, which I highly recommend to anyone who have pets with allergies, and I have an inhaler for her when she is having asthma attacks. I took her to a vet the first time Marley had an asthma attack, and she put Marley on steroids. After about 3 days on the steroids, I had to rush her back to the vet, and vet said to stop the steroids. I thought Marley was going to die at that point. Steroids have long term side effects and do not want to give them to her again. Marleys asthma seems to be from outdoor allergens such as pollen. She is an indoor cat only but still does have attacks once in a while mostly in late spring, summer and fall. She is having the asthma coughing right now from sneaking out on screened-in back porch two days ago. So afraid she is going to go into a full-blown asthma attack again. Her cough is gradually getting worse.
@Dora Dean thank you! I am researching it now.
Hi Linda,
Please look up Quercetin and asthma. There are combos on the market that contains bromalain enzyme and Quercetin that may help your pet. Another thing that may possibly help reduce asthma attacks is the thymus glandular. It seems to help tone down immune reactions in some people who have hypersensitivities to environmental triggers.
Good to know
Murray is one spoilt kitty… love it – so beautiful…
NB : Dogs have masters…
Cats have STAFF…!!!
Just a tip for dustmites…
1/4 of white vinegar in spray bottle
Rest fill with water…spray all areas … works well
Also : vacum cat 10 minutes after dusting her wth flea powder (hate poisoning cat) & Baby powder … cat used to vacum cleaner – works well…
CURIOUS, as to what makes a cat chew their hair off all over belly…..100% indoor cat, female, fixed. Anyone?

Do you feed dry kibble? If so what kind? Could cats potentially be allergic to peas? โLegumesโ. Since now that is what a lot of foods are using as fillers

Are there any of these remedies that shouldnโt be combined??
Dear doctor, our shepadoodle had very bad diarrhea for about 3 days oh, but she was drinking and then her appetite came back, but this morning she wont eat and she has severe diarrhea again. Very wet. What could it be? Shes 4 years old and to my knowledge has not eaten anything she shouldnt.
Im not a vet. but it doesnt sound right. Usually if probiotics are needed there are other symptoms.
@Veterinary Secrets dear doctor, thank you for replying. My son took her to the doctor this morning and they gave him probiotics to give her. That does not sound right to me after having diarrhea for a week and a half. What test should they do? I live in Salt Lake City Utah. We go to the Sugarhouse Veterinary Clinic. My son is 24 and is not as assertive as I am. They did give him a little cup thing and said that if she still has diarrhea by Monday to take a sample and bring it in. My son said that they were able to get a little bit of poop at the clinic but said they could not see any parasites in it. Again, we have two other dogs that are perfectly fine and they all eat the same dog food. We dont give them food from the table. Im extremely worried oh, so worried I feel like Im having a panic attack. Thank you so much for taking your time to answer my question. You have no idea how much I appreciate you. I watch you all the time.
Sounds infectious, please see your vet

@Veterinary Secrets wow, isnt that interesting! I had been afraid to give to my cats. Thanks very much!
It is safe and now advised to give for pancreatitis

Murray: Im not your guinea pig [growl]
Honestly, I donโt understand why you would feed that cat to his obese size processed dry kibble and then spend all that money on โtreatmentsโ, when you could simply feed him what his body needs to be healthy; namely a diet of raw fish and meat. He would get all his essential fatty acids from fatty fish and sardines and a taurine supplement if needed
Im afraid to use Nettle, golly so far Murray your cat has had CBD oil, & Coconut Oil, & now Nettle๐พ๐พ๐๐ณall that???

Thanks for watching. Well, Murray… is just being Murray. lol
What about misdiagnosed for alopecia?
Good point- but that would not be itchy. Then you should consider melatonin
We need to be questioning – what on Earth is causing our pets to have so many allergic problems!!?? Coughing, scratching, itching, poor coat, … Is it environmental, or the foods we feed them, or what? I do animal rescue and see all kinds of issues that seem to be allergic in nature. I wonder if horses and other farm animals are having the same distress? Wildlife? ~ Murray lucked out when he ended up with you Dr Jones.
Good points @chinookvalley
Vaccines & diet
I thoroughly believe its chemtrails.

Is it ok if I save your videos to my playlist? Somehow I seem to have a channel without creating one and have 2 subscribers and (like my daughter) I donโt know how I have a channel. I donโt want to get in trouble with You Tube. This is why I am asking if I can save it. I searched my name and canโt find my channel, but I do obviously have one somehow. Thank you and God Bless you! Love natural remedies!
Veterinary Secrets โ Thank you so much. You have so much good information about animals. I recently discovered your channel and liked (of course) and subscribed to your channel. I save yours under Veterinary on my playlist. This way I can go back and find what I am looking for. I never upload anything. God Bless you and Thank You for sharing what you know with everyone. I greatly appreciate it. Have a blessed day!
Yes, you definitely can! Youll only get in trouble if you reupload any of the videos without permission or without giving proper credits.
I bought organic freeze dried nettle capsules. um they are 600mg how do I divide that up to proper dosage for my cat?

Aww you look a bit like Steve Irwin especially in your first video
OMG he does๐คฃ๐

Are these remedies good for humans as well? I think their very neat
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!. My one cat has been on medrol/methylprednisolone 4mg off and on her whole life. She is now 12 years old.I know these meds will kill her liver over time. My vet wants money, not a better solution to controlling her itching. Would you think that starting with the coconut oil and tincture would help? She has a very sensitive tummy also. We have tried different foods, air purifiers, you name it. Please help. Thank you.
My vet immediately put my 16 year old cat on Prednisolone, but I read that they can destroy the liver, so I took her off them. I am going to try these methods. She already has thyroid disease, but as you say, the vets just want your money. The appointment and the meds cost me $272.00, and it was not worth claiming the insurance, as I have a high premium, so it was easier to just pay up. The insurance however, is a good thing because she did get attacked by a fox which cost over $7,500 and they paid up for the MRI and surgery. But why give them a toxic medication when you can follow this vets advice? I hope your cat is doing well. Please check all the other alternatives. There are so many online, and the Kitty School replies to your questions.
Hey, I have hearing problems, but i cant hear other words please write the recipe down so I can see what i need to see. Hes cute Kitty. Our Kitty has itching problems & big scabs, we did have Flees but they are all gone.

back to the issue of vets. We all know lots of people buy and use lactated ringer for their cats, mostly for kidney troubles. So what do you think about vets buying lactated ringer for around $5.00 a bag and then jacking up the price to $20 or even $30 a bag? I say its very unethical to jack up the price like that on something that people really need.
I cant wait to try these, my cat has pretty much scratched her hair off and shes full of wounds and scabs. Ive taken her to the vet 3 times and they still dont know and I cant afford to keep taking her so its nice to see some home remedies I can try. Thank you thank you. I hope this helps
