Ive learned the hard way that I have to have quite a bit of extra carbs on top of my basic keto diet or else I cant keep up my serotonin and dopamine, then I get completely depressed and fragile. Mary clearly doesnt have this problem and is not sad at all. Anyway keto is great, but definitely add in more carbs so that you have a bit more insulin to shuttle aminos into the brain better. I have a COMT SNP and just need more neurotransmitters.
@Noah Seeum Chris is not strictly keto but hes a nutrition and biohacking nerd! Hes addressing how to increase serotonin here (stress resistance and fortitude). Phenylalanine and tyrosine increase dopamine (and adrenaline to a lesser extent / see COMPT). But these two especially stimulate the emotional part of the brain and provide joy. But you want balance, not to low or high. Youll know if you have to much if addictive patterns form, or you have trouble listening to the higher logic part of the brain (emotional brain is hijacking everything). Its large list, but it all centers around, keto, cyclic keto (that adds in more carbs) and managing the neurotransmitters. If you find yourself depressed on keto I can almost promise that you have a greater need for dopamine and serotonin. Youll get the aminos for making these on keto, BUT YOU REQUIRE A BIT MORE NSULIN SPIKING TO SHUTTLE THE AMINOS INTO THE BRAIN.

Low carb explain . I take my sugar at 7am is 124 and after I take 3 of my morning pills ,thyroid , water pill and my morning blood pressure pill and my sugar goes up to almost 148 or more . And I have another blood pressure and aspirin and metformin to take during the day and 2 vitamins , so blood pressure and sugar is always up . My dr cut two of my am pills in the 1/2 but I still get 15 number up in my sugar , I’m not keto but I’m on very low carb diet if I don’t cheat 🤪 I get most my protein from Greek yogurt and cheese ( I was vegan for 3 years and smell of meat still bothers me )my weight is blow what should be ! Is good 👍 all this talk is my sugar is higher then normal even after 16 hrs intermittent fasting every day is around 150 or up why ? Should I start taking pill for it beside 2000. Mg medfomin?

I started a low carb high fat eating about 2 weeks ago and I also cut out sugar. Within those 2 weeks I feel so much better. Sleeping better, more energy you name it. The interviewer (doctor) is very annoying with his butting in mid sentence. She did very well and kept on track. Low or zero carb is the way to go. She didnt stress the harmful processed vegetable oils on cells. Organic is best and olive oil at low temperatures is the way.

Honest to God. I have never been able to lose weight on low-carb. I have tried for years. I feel better, my sugar stays low, etc., but unless I also count calories/portions I will not lose. I am currently trying the Carnivore Diet. Strictly meat, eggs, a bit of hard cheese. Absolutely zero weight loss after one month. I am 60 lbs. overweight. About to give up…again.

@Him Bike I can tell you ONE thing: MOST people (!) eat oatmeal at Breakfast, and if you are going to eat a carb, your body processes all of the carbs better in the earler part of the day. If these people did a fast and didnt start eating till later and ate into the night, your metabolism slows down and it will store fat.

Low carbs is cheap, eggs, bacon, fatty meat, cruciferous vegetables, Greek yogurt, not as expensive as takeout burgers, highly processed carbohydrates. Seasonal fruits available all year round will make you fat.

I find it very funny also to tell a doctor that you eat 150 to 200 grams of protein a day and I stay under 150grams of carbs a day. Im 51 with 36inch waist 52 inch chest etc. I dont have any major medical problems and exercise 3 to 5 times a week. They still want to insist that you need the crabs for energy

My doctor put me on low carb diet for diabetes.
The vegetarians and vegans that I know, only do those diets in order to be able to eat more carbs (mostly sugar junk) thinking that they get slimmer and unfortunately they dont and, when I tell them that they say that I am not seeing things right. Unfortunately my body shows that they are the ones that are getting it badly wrong and Im 59 yy on OMAD omnivore, no calorie count thats for sure (not much veggies as I dont like them) and low, carb high fat. They have brain fog, wrinkles in their legs and bellies, hair loss, sluggish thinking, bad teeth, you name it, but they just keep at doing it. How can people be so blind??? I think that it has become more a fad to some, and a psycho-disease like bulimia or anorexia to many of them. Many say that their friends would be mad at them if they would get out of their vegan or vegetarian diets….daha. What kind of friends are those?? Not mine for sure. And my brain speed is off the chart and they hate it because when they are trying to make or articulate a sentence I already have completed that sentence and the idea for them and that makes them really furious, but they just dont get it. @Over Comer Hi, i try to use the good oils (coconut oil, olive oil, ghee ) when I cook and keep it simple, my meats and chicken predominantly cooked in an airfryer,and I do not use an over amount of fatty meats, so my metabolism will use my own body fat for energy in ketosis. Some people think they can go wild eating lots of fats…for instance will take a piece of cheese and wrap in bacon, then deep fry it and say its keto….I try to use common sense.

@Jan Ukudemu Not a silly question at all. We learn by asking questions. Anyway, use butter, real butter not margarine. Eat avocados and olives. Theyre both good fat. Make a salad with some protein like chicken or ham and cheese, throw in some olives, cut up avocado a tiny bit of onion (watch out for the carbs on those) Maybe some cherry tomatoes and grated parm cheese. Just some ideas of the type of salads you can make. Or make some tuna with mayo and a little chopped pickle, onion powder and place a scoop on half an avocado. Its delicious!
Its hard to change our thinking about eating fat because weve been told for so long that its bad for us but the truth is, it isnt bad at all. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you can eat a little more protein instead of more fat but just make sure to get good fats into your meals. Fat keeps you feeling satisfied and it wont raise your glucose. When you cook, use ghee or butter or avocado oil. Make your salad dressing with olive oil. Dont cook with olive oil because heat changes the molecular structure of the oil and it loses its health benefits. Google low carb meal plans or even keto meal plans to give you an idea of the foods you can choose. 🙂 You can do this! 🙂
