Share The ketogenic diet originated almost years ago to take care of epilepsy originally.
Nowadays, it can be used as a nutrition plan by health-conscious women and men to optimize body composition and athletic performance. Recent research shows that high fat, very-low carb diets have another benefit: They could help control glucose, triglycerides, insulin, and bodyweight in people who have diabetes.
The study below shows the ketogenic diet could be a highly effective tool you may use to control symptoms of Diabetes, alongside medication and exercise. Slicing through the Fat: What’s Diabetes? Before we reach research, we have to review some basic medical terminology. Diabetes is several metabolic diseases where the body has elevated blood levels its main power source: a sugar called glucose. There are two explanations why this occurs.
In a few people, there can be an insufficient production of a chemical called insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas that lower degrees of glucose in the blood.
Type 2 diabetes isn’t inherited. However, lifestyle factors such as for example high body weight, poor exercise and eating habits all raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Over time, this more impressive range of serum blood sugar leads to increased production of insulin, elevated degrees of the energy-storing molecules called triglycerides, and generally increased bodyweight.
Due to excess sugar, red blood cells called hemoglobin are coated with sugar. Doctors will most likely gauge the proportion of HbA1c to regular hemoglobin to determine when you have diabetes.
If not managed correctly, high blood sugar in diabetics can damage blood vessels and result in a variety of illnesses. Unmanaged diabetes doubles the chance of cardiovascular diseases such as for example coronary artery diseases and stroke. Because ketogenic diets restrict carbohydrate greatly, some surmise that the ketogenic diet could possibly be a highly effective dietary intervention. But could it be effective and safe? Among the first studies investigating the impact of a low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet LCKD was performed by researchers at Duke University INFIRMARY in Within their study, researchers recruited 28 overweight participants with type 2 diabetes for weekly intervention trial.
The subjects had a mean BMI of Within their intervention, subjects consumed a LCKD diet with the purpose of consuming less than 20 grams of carbohydrates each day while reducing dosages of diabetes medication. Subjects received nutritional counseling and medication adjustment every fourteen days also. Recommendations: In case you are overweight and also have type II diabetes, utilizing a ketogenic diet is actually a solution to control symptoms and reduce medication use.
Ketogenic vs. In weekly long intervention study Low-Calorie Diet for Type II Diabetes, researchers recruited 84 obese subjects with type 2 diabetes and divided them into two groups randomly. The next group ate an extremely low carb ketogenic diet with significantly less than 20 grams of carbohydrates each day without calorie restriction. Both groups were also underwent identical exercise regimens and had same usage of nutritional group and coaching meetings.
Researchers measured key diabetes markers including fasting glucose, body mass index BMIbody weight kg and hemoglobin A1c at the start of the scholarly study, week 12and the finish week Both groups experienced no notable undesireable effects within their health the midpoint. Week intervention trial Inresearchers in the United Arab Emirates recruited overweight and obese participants for a 24. The subjects were split into two groups: one consumed a low-calorie diet LCD as the other consumed a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet LCKD.
Both underwent equal exercise and nutritional training also. Every a month, the researchers measured degrees of waist circumference, blood sugar level, degrees of glycosylated hemoglobin, and triglycerides.
Key Takeaways: In comparison with a calorie-restricted diet, a very-low carbohydrate ketogenic diet leads to greater improvements in symptoms connected with type II diabetes in obese subjects Recommendations: In case you are ready to undergo the strict ketogenic diet, it may be a highly effective method in managing symptoms connected with type II diabetes.
After wearing down the data from the prior studies, a definitive pattern starts to emerge: cutting carbs causes a decrease in diabetes-related biomarkers. In some full cases, the keto diet was even in a position to reverse type 2 diabetes completely. Regardless of the promising evidence, we should remain skeptical.
A few studies can only just provide us with clues in regards to what could be the better dietary intervention for individuals with type 2 diabetes. To discover if carb restriction may take the throne as the most efficient type 2 diabetes diet, we should look at the dilemna of the data with the aid of high-quality meta-analyses. The first meta-analysis worth noting collected the info from 10 randomized trials comprising participants altogether. With such a lax criterion for low-carb, it really is difficult to tell if a genuine low-carb diet i.
Fortunately, there are two other meta-analyses that will help take our understanding a huge revolution. The first one was published in with the intention of wearing down the current data about how low carbohydrate diets affect type 2 diabetes patients. However, one question still remains: Does the info support our previous findings that the reduced carb diet works more effectively than other diets for type 2 diabetes? Although some studies indicate this to be the case, the last meta-analysis we will dive into requires a more conservative method of the current data.
In this meta-analysis, the researchers looked at the total results from a total of 20 randomized managed trials with more than 3, subjects, the majority of whom had type 2 diabetes. Overall, the results from studies that include low-carb diets showed that they caused a substantial reduction in the percentage of HbA1c weighed against other diets. In some instances, the decrease in HbA1c was like the effect attained by some diabetes medications.
When people who have type 2 diabetes follow a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet, their health improves, weight is lost, blood sugar and HbA1c levels drop, and other health parameters considerably improve.
Even studies that put healthy individuals on a ketogenic diet found similar improvements. High-Fat Diets: Prevention for Diabetes? Because ketogenic diets are high in saturated fats usually, many people suspect they are unhealthy. The research demonstrates very-low carbohydrate diets are actually good for overweight and obese individuals who have problems with type II diabetes. However, just how do ketogenic diets affect the chance of type II diabetes in healthy subjects?
To research this further, researchers recruited 83 non-diabetic subjects with the average age of 48 and BMI of They randomly divided them in another of three equal-calorie diets for eight weeks. All subjects also participated in a weight-loss exercise routine and support from dieticians. At the end of the 12 week study, scientists observed similar loss in surplus fat and overall bodyweight in every three diets. More specifically, triacylglycerols decreased by Actually, they may help lower insulin and triglycerides levels in comparison with other equal-calorie diets.
Recommendation: If your triglycerides, insulin, and post-meal glucose are high, consider utilizing a ketogenic diet. However, ensure that you monitor your cholesterol closely. HOW ABOUT Keto and Type 1 Diabetes? The bulk of studies examining the ketogenic diet concentrate on overweight or obese subjects with type 2 diabetes.
But may be the ketogenic diet a highly effective treatment for type 1 diabetics? Unfortunately, there are no formal clinical tests examining the impact of the ketogenic diet on glycemic control in type I diabetics. However, a report from examined the consequences of a lower life expectancy carbohydrate diet on patients with type 1 diabetes. In it, researchers recruited 48 subjects with the average age of 24 years and had them consume a lower life expectancy carbohydrate diet.
For all those that adhered to a lower life expectancy carbohydrate diet, their percentage of hemoglobin A1c HbA1c was 7. So long as they followed this dietary approach, their patients could actually live a standard life without having to take medication. However, we’ve yet to explore the mechanisms behind why keto is indeed effective for diabetes.
According to my interpretation of the considerable research data, listed below are the four factors which may be accountable for the promising ramifications of the keto diet: Calorie Restriction. The majority of the research on type 2 diabetes supports the use of calorie restriction for enhancing most of the metabolic issues that donate to the condition. SURPLUS FAT Reduction. Based on the current research literature, both subcutaneous and visceral fat are likely involved in the development of type 2 diabetes. The keto diet is one lifestyle change that is confirmed again and again to help us lose weight and improve metabolic health.
help people who have diabetes manage their blood sugarTo, doctors will typically prescribe a diet that contains low glycemic index foods mostly. By restricting carbs to the amount that the keto diet recommends, you will stimulate the production of ketones and enter nutritional ketosis eventually.
As a complete result, you shall start burning more ketones for fuel. Ketones have already been found to greatly help increase weight loss also, lower glucose and insulin levels, decrease insulin resistance, and improve energy efficiency.
However, an enormous amount of research supports that very-low carbohydrate, ketogenic diets certainly are a healthy lifestyle choice for diabetes actually. In fact, many studies recommend that ketogenic diets are more effective in managing and stopping diabetes when compared to low-calorie diets. They represent the best-documented, least controversial results.
This can, and indirectly directly, reduce insulin resistance via multiple mechanisms. Throughout this article, we viewed the info and the principles behind how low-carb dieting affect patients with diabetes, but we never addressed you skill about it directly.
Ive been eating keto over a month now…after I had a scary blood sugar reading last Thanksgiving while visiting my t2 diabetic mom. She gave me a blood sugar monitor for Christmas and since being on keto my morning blood sugar reading is pretty rock solid at 88.
I was telling her about a wonderful mushroom cream sauce I made and served over a butterflied chicken breast pan fried in a little olive oil . She replied that that sounded amazing but couldnt try it because she cant eat saturated fats. This was two weeks after I bought her a copy of Dr Fungs book The Diabetes Code.
She has the information from a doctor whos done extensive research, she has me as living proof keto lowers blood sugar, but she is so programmed to think fat is bad I dont know what else to do or say.
What do you think about the hypothesis that diabetes is caused by cells that are clogged with excess fat, and therefore do not allow the insulin to enter the cell ?
Im a registered dietitian and I approve of this message. 🙂
OMG, this video has scared the crap out of me. Been T2 diabetic for almost 20 years, A1c of 7.2, on Januvia and Lantus. Have been trying to eliminate carbs. Im sitting at my desk at work with tears in my eyes. Im scared.
Michelle M it’s never too late! You can do it one day at a time 🙏
I am so thankful for your help that I would almost move near you and try to become your patient! Thanks for the help you give diabetics! Your friend in Arkansas 👍 💕
Thank you Doctor for your information!
You could have passed, on the Penis example! LOL!
Love it thank you for this truth
i have type 1 diabetes and really need help with weight loss if anyone has any additional tips please reply to this comment.
I am prediabetic. What if my ketones (urine) are above 16 everytime I do the keto diet. Isnt that near ketoacidosis??
Down 100lb, Pant size from 40 to 32 and A1C from 8.5 to 5.0. Combination of Keto and OMAD. My DR said couldnt be done wanted to put me on meds and didnt want to run all tests Dr. Berry recommends. In the end, ditched that Doctor found a good one. Listen to Dr. Berry, I did along with others like Dr. Fung and its changed my life for the better. Thank you Dr. Berry!!
Thank you so much for this video.. Much needed for my son. 🙏🏽
Im having a VERY difficult time figuring out how I should be eating to achieve a keto diet as someone with type 2 diabetes. I know its a lot to ask in just a youtube comment from a stranger but my doctor just gives me vague answers, the cookbooks Ive bought are filled with fats I cant eat, and I just dont know how to figure out what I should be eating so that I get to my nutritional values and also dont drop low in blood sugar. Can someone please help? Theres too much conflicting and undecipherable information online, Ive been researching almost nonstop for 2 days and I still have no clue if Im even eating healthy or not.
✝💘 THE GREAT AWAKENING 💘✝ ……. I ONLY WISH MORE DOCTORS WOULD WAKE UP / break free from big PHARMA and the deceptive food guide industry And REALLY START TO HEAL DIABETICS ……. AS THE BIBLE SAYS THAT MONEY IS THE ROOT OF – ALL KINDS – OF EVIL …… THE FOOD INDUSTRY , IS THE – ROOT And CAUSE – OF ALMOST – ALL – ILLNESSES OF THE HUMAN BODY …… THANK YOU DR. *Gotta love the fact that Youtube runs ads before, during & after Dr Berrys videos that promote **_systems_** & **_concoctions_** … all claiming high carbs & high sugars are the best diet … Even if you have diabetes or insulin resistance.*
I’m Type 2 diabetic, should I be concerned with going keto if my liver enzymes look high? I don’t want to get a fatty liver by eating more fats in my diet? Help?
Eat lots of vegetables and leafy greens with keto and intermittent fast
My husband has been on KETO for 6 months. He was type 2 Diabetes for 12yrs. After being on KETO for 6 months finally he has come off his metformin. Glycozide etc. So YES KETO is the best diet ever.
Here is the best diet for Diabetes▶
Also Dr has suggested a modified keto diet
How many carbs per day do you suggest for a type 2 diabetic that the dr just said its starting to damage kidneys?
Thankyou I love you’re channel ❤️❤️❤️
@LaUrAh im type 1 diabetic too. Are you sure that you know how you count carbs ? My opinion is that you have to stay two days only with a green salad including avocado. after two days start to use all the other meals . But remember that if you eat too much protein , protein transforms to glucose.
DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN NEVER HAVE CHEAT DAYS????
Organ Transplant diabetes that is the result of prednisone and the anti-rejection drugs does not function like Type 2 diabetic because regardless what you do, the drugs screw up your plans.
My chest always feels tingly on a keto diet. Sometimes it hurts. Im scared
I have been on carnivore diet twice now. I cheated and splurged on sugar and now my feet are numb, burning, inflammed red and itching like crazy and half of my face is numb. Before I went on carnivore my pinky was numb for weeks and wouldnt go back to normal. After about a week of carnivore the numbness left. I think 0 carbs is ok. I am not sure if I am diabetic or not, but it seems like I have symptoms sometimes.
What do you eat in a day for a diabetic?
Nooooooooo! NOT MY PENIS…SAY IT ISNT SO DOC, SAY IT ISNT SO!!!!
I was diagnosed with Type 2 in 2016 sophomore year of high school.
Thought it was the end of my life and my health hasn’t been the best the past years.
I just started the keto diet a week ago, my sugar levels are lower than before and lost weight already.
I’m looking forward for a better lifestyle and thank you Doctor for making this video with lots of info😌
I think you are spot on.
I lift weights 5 days per week and 1/2 hour of cardio and Im type 2. What should I eat?
Thank God for Ken Berry and Jason Fung telling the truth about diabetics. I was able to take control and cure my type 2 diabetics and my hypertension. In just 6 weeks my blood pressure went from 142 over 90 to 122 over 72 . my doctor put me on meds for my type 2 diabetics but they made me so sick . Had to stop taking them after 3 weeks of trying to deal with side effects. But i had low to mid 5s blood sugar for last 15 days so told my doctor i was stopping them he was apprehensive but agreed to as long as my sugars staying low . Kept track of my blood sugar and still low 5s after 7 weeks. Saw my doctor a week ago and he asked me to help him do keto. oh and I have lost 35 lbs too. Intermittent fasting with a good keto diet is life saving. Please do as doctor Berry and Jason Fung say if you want to have the best possible outcome for yourself. Ken i have no words powerful enough to express my gratitude for your advice and I continue to watch and learn from your videos. thank you !
I have type 2, went onto keto, I no longer take any medications, no metformin, no insulin, levels are down to near normal levels
I think you need to come up with a solution for kids and teens. Hypoglycemia is deadly. You cant just give teens no hope. You should really get to know type1. Its not only the physical part but the mental part thats horrible. Many teens including adults are suicidal and you want to tell them the effort they make isent worth it…This was too simplistic, Im sorry to say. While I appreciate the information, there also a mental part to it.
Not keen on keto. Kidneys, cholesterol issues in long run. Small portions, vegetables, fibre and plant protein is doable and safe.
Dear Dr. Ken Berry,
Im on lchf and now keto for 5 months, my fasting glucose (6,8-7,5 mmmol/ l) starts all of a sudden to rise, what can that be? I must say I started a keto feedingplan just after Christmas, which has up to 30 g of carbs. I am trying to lower that to under 20. I need to eat about 100 g of protein, (gluconeogenesis?)Succeeded so far, but bloodglucose doesnt really go down…help please? Greetings from Sheila 👋🏻
Omg…. This all makes sense. I was 320lbs eating a high carb vegan diet. I then ate keto in June and lost 110 pounds in 7 months. I now eat carnivore and have never felt better. If I even try to eat onions I feel HORRIBLE!! I also have all the symptoms of diabetes. Every single symptom. 🤦🏾♀️ thank you for this video. I’m going to go get tested.
Great to hear a health professional make a distinction between types 1 & 2. I’m type 1 and it drives me nuts.
Silverback lol same!
What about women with pcos? I’ve been told multiple times by docs that even if I lost half my weight one day I’d always be type 2 diabetic because of pcos/hormone imbalance. Thoughts @KenDBerryMD ?
found out that Im a type 1 at the age of 28 now Im 44, my a1c is 6.1 I weight 159! This the worst disease Ive ever couldve gotten these docs never give me a sliding scale its so crazy trying to figure out how much insulin Im supposed to take Ive had so many Damn seziure this people act like they dont know exactly what Im supposed to be doing!! As you can see this has me so mad, just wondering could help me please!!
Hi Doctor KenDBerry: Many thanks for your videos. The only issue I have is your salt use advice for people who are on restricted sodium intake. Can you have a video that discusses this condition in greater detail? Much appreciated. I am posting your videos on my FB page.
Thanks i am just about to get keto.
I have cystic fibrosis related diabetes, which basically means that I am always producing the maximum amount of insulin my body can, but that basal amount is not enough to cover sugar spikes after meals. So I take long acting insulin.
As someone who is pancreatic insufficient, the talk of any kind of diet worries me, but having started vertex drugs, and having reached a healthy weight, I think changing my diet is becoming necessary.
Dr. Richard Bernstein did not talk favorably about the ketogenic diet and the conditions caused by high blood sugars will be reversed with his method. He is living proof as a doctor as is his thousands of patients who have recovered fully and living healthy lives. His book called “ diabetic solution” is on Amazon. I never understood what I had until I started listening to him on YouTube. This man had the first diabetic meter ever made for doctors and when the doctor said to him, “what are you trying to do put me out of business “when he said everyone should have a meter, is proof that the medical industry is not concerned with our health, only our money. And the reason they say we need to eat so many carbs per day is because we have to cover the insulin we’re taking or the medication we’re taking! What a rip off.
My mother is currently in the hospital due to ketoacidosis, afib… Why do the doctors tell her to eat 60g of carbs PER MEAL!!! I dont understand! This is her third time in ICU and when I ask doctors about the keto diet that dont know about it. And they said she should eat a low carb diet then allow 60g of carbs PER meal. Do you know what shes allowed on the menu? Ice cream, cake, mac n cheese. And my mom says well they said I could have it! Shes blind, has neuropathy, over weight, on two insulins. Why should she listen to me when professionals, one after another, are telling her its ok to eat that. I dont know what to do. I feel like Im letting her die right before my eyes and I have an answer but no one to back me up. 😔
PILLS TREAT SYMPTOMS. Diet is the real cure!
This!!! My stupid doctor told me that I needed to eat the American Diabetes Association diet, and take pills, the minute I decided to ignore her and do keto, I started seeing results
As a Type 2 diabetic, I’m truly appreciative of this information because, when I visit my doctor, this is the impression I get:
Because I have high stress in my life between having to leave my family, due to attempted narcissistic abuse and am afraid of where my employment will take me, although I’ve been a a Type 2 diabetic for all of my adult life, so those things aren’t the cause, I just feel as if, the worse my life gets and the older I get (mid-fifties), the giddier my doctor gets. I don’t want to paint her as an evil person but, it’s a business. The less control I take over my own life, the more control I hand over to her and she’s quite comfortable with that.
When I visit the doctor, I have learned to become aware that, typically, they’re not a nutritionist. It is more of an interest to keep you dependent upon them and the medications they prescribe. So, while it’s considered to be a care profession, there’s a back end, the same as how a pharmacy will sell you any and every unhealthy thing and also provide you with the medication to counteract what they sell.
So, listening to you and other doctors on YT, provides another side to what is typically a visit to the doctor, where you actually do care. Yes, YT videos make money. But, I love to hear that I can also help myself as, I’m never going to get that type of feedback from my local doctor or hospital.
Thank you
Dr. Im so thankful for all your videos. I am wondering if I, a 37-year-old male with 15 kg overweight with no problem with diabetic. Should I go on a keto diet? As a lifestyle?
Wonderful wonderful informative video! Well done!!! Can you please talk about low carb/ keto lifestyle and Ketones in type 1 diabetic kids!!! Even during a LOW BLOOD SUGAR!!! Thank you
o.k. you got my attention THANK YOU.
I was diagnosed at age 67 Type 1..no family history of diabetes..out on insulin shortly after..I found an introduction soon after to the keto diet by a study done by Ellen Davis, Ms and Dr Keith Runyan…very helpful study and hv been on this diet for 3 yrs…feeling healthy and energetic kost of the time …I do hv issues with trying to keep my bs high before going on my walks as my bs drops rather quickly when using alot of energy..do you hv any suggestions?
At 63 I find myself with an A1C of 9 and I want very much to change that for the better. I don’t know how to cook never learned but I’m very interested in this diet, is there a place to go to get information on how to have meals for those of us who do not know how to cook?
Hi Kenberrymd
I listened to this video started keto
I do not take metformin my sugar never goes over 120
best thing i ever did love your videos and also recommend to people I know
What do you guys think of all the vegetarian and vegans that say theyve reversed their type 2 with eating veggies and complex carbs?
I take 42 units of insulin for my t2d and 500mg of met. twice daily Ive started keto can I safely stop my insulin?
The AMA, AHA, ADA, ACS, and other official groups have been killing people for 60 years with their dietary advice.
Does being a type 2 diabetic make it harder to get into ketosis?
OMG TY I agree I have been saying the CARB allergies for years!!
i did keto and it destroyed my gall bladder im having severe gut problems now
Thank you for the explanation Dr Berry, the info has been helping me a lot
Been diabetic since I was 13 (25 years ago). Never had a doctor even consider putting me on low carb, it was always take more insulin take more medications. At one point my A1C was 15 while taking 150+ units of insulin per day. In recent years I had managed to get it back down to 8-10 but never any lower despite always doing what the doctors told me. Around 2 years ago I decided Id had enough and I was going my own way, started doing Keto, despite all my doctors Oh but fat is bad! claims. Dropped my A1C below 7 for the first time last year, and Im hoping to get it under 6 soon, also lost about 40lbs in the meantime.
Is the keto diet safe for people who suffer from diverticulitis? Could you please do a video on this?
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS??? What about checking with Keto stix? Is that not Ketosis when in the Keto diet and your urine tests show elevated ketones? Is this different from KetoACIDOSIS and is it safe? I can’t seem to find the answers to this…… btw,…my blood sugars are really good just concerned about my urine tests.
My hubby was told that his A1C was getting a little high….here start this pill. OR, exercise, change your diet, lose weight. SO….one year later after going Keto without realizing thats what he was doing BTW, he has gone from 270 to 215. He never took the pills. He goes to the gym 3 times a week.
I started keto 4 weeks ago. Have dropped 9kg and my blood sugar levels have dropped drastically. The only annoying thing i find is the fluctuating level of my ketones. In the morning its trace, evening its deep, 6mmol. Does anyone else experience this? When is the best time to check ketones?
We know someone with diabetes who was told NOT to let his blood sugar get too low, so he needs to eat some carbs throughout the day. He said he was not supposed to go keto… this is what his doctor is saying. 😫 What to tell him?
I’m a type 2 diabetic on Metformin. I’ve been eating between 40-50g net carbs a day for 3 weeks. Today I tested my keton level with urin testing strips and it’s 4.0mmol/L. The information sheet that came with the testing strips says that’s a dangerous level. Is this level really dangerous? And if so, how do I lower it? Is it by increasing my carb intake?
Thank you for your honesty and your straight talking attitude. I am a type 2 diabetic and you scared the crap out of me and for this I am grateful, I’m starting a serious Keto lifestyle right away. Thank you Dr Berry 👍
@Lainey McGeorge Congrats! Keep it up – this is so worth the effort! 👏
Pat Bastian Hi Pat, it’s going well. Thanks for asking 🌹
Lainey- howser it going, 2 weeks in?
I was prediabetic and sure had insulin resistance. 9 weeks on keto and my blood sugar is getting low. My last few fasting tests have been in the low 70s. I kind of feel like crap. I have been light headed, dizzy at times and low energy. I was very excited when my blood sugar got under 100 but now I might be too low. Any suggestions?
I love keto!! But what is the long term Ketosis I keep hearing about how dangerous it is you should not be in ketosis for long periods of time is there any truth to this or just people hating keto
Thank you so much. Veteran hospital tells me 45 carbs…
its a gunshot wound made of donuts… damn.
I just started Keto my mother died from type 2 diabetes complications.
I watched her go through dialysis & get a leg amputated . But she never quit eating sugar…. Haagen Das ,cookies ,candy bars was her daily choices . When she first was diagnosed with pre diabetes she was told she could lose weight & excersise & probably never have to go on insulin but she didn’t do that she was a binge eater & would eat a whole pizza in one sitting she was at some points probably 100 to 125 lbs overweight & wouldn’t walk or do any exercise I’m trying to be healthier but I myself was addicted to sugar but don’t miss it on Keto . My mom died at just the age of 69 she could have lived a much longer healthier active life but did not take her diabetes seriously & quit her poor food choices . I believe she suffered from depression & self medicated with sugar but that just makes it worse . Please all diabetics or insulin resistant people get off sugar it IS poison ☠️
Yes I’m so glad I picked the right dr!!! This is exactly what she told me to follow!
My husband became a diabetic AFTER a kidney transplant. So Im confused. So will He always be one? He lost foot part of his lower leg this past summer.Stubborn man wont listen to me that carbs turn to sugar he wonders why his sugar is off the charts (above 600 and up) .
Preach Dr Berry!! 🙌🏽👏🏽
Thank you for your explanation! I am going to start the Ketogenic Diet, and see how it goes.
I’m type 2 diabetic how much fat are you to eat in Keto?
The best thing to happen to some diabetics is death from a stroke or heart attack because if you survive and your blood sugar continues uncontrolled you wind up in a nursing home losing limbs and blind and living a shitty, low quality life being taken care of by a minimum wage worker. That is PURE FIRE that I wish someone had told me ten f ing years ago!!!
As a type 1 diabetic Im stuck in a country (the Netherlands) where the public Healthcare fully adapted to this kind of lousy treatment. Im on insulin pump therapy and have no right to have a sensor and the reason is literally that I AM TOO HEALTHY (requirements to get a sensor in NL are e.g. Hypo insensitive, children, pregnancy) …. My life has fallen in the hands of these capitalists that only concern about money. Any argument against this regime is falling in a political bottomless pit.
Rob van Pelt can you pay out of pocket or the doc just won’t even prescribe it?
This is so scary, I am type 2 and dont know how many carbs or fat to eat in a day , no matter how many videos I watch . Where do I start . Please, please help my 3 month blood test was over 90 at its highest. Is there any way I can be told how many carbs and how much fat to eat in a day , I am morbidly obese
Speaking facts!
T2 Insulin Resistant… went Keto on Jan 30. So far down from 208 to 183. Blood sugar avg down from 180 to 120. And still dropping. Hoping to come off metformin ASAP.
Whty would you say waiting on the minimum wage person to come take care of you ? That is so fucked up dr Berry . You have a whole lot of people watching you that are working at minimum wage .
Thank you, no one has ever told me this I am type 2, have been since my one and only pregnancy 33ys ago. My body is so tired, I know the damage I have done to myself I irreparable, hopefully I can at least stop it now 😕
All food you eat become glucose in your blood. Carbs are just slower to become glucose. If you don’t want glucose in your blood, stop eating.
OMG this hit home thank you so much for your advice cuz Ive been type II for 12 years and have played Russian roulette most of those years and I have horrific Neuropathy and horrible foggy vision and many other issues to show for my stupidity. I cant even get glasses because my sight changes drastically all the time. I hope its not too late to behave and turn this around! No person has ever said it like this and made a believer out of me! THANK YOU SO MUCH! kay
7:05…youre welcome
I can not believe i have been lied to for 3 years. Starting on keto diet from now on
So, vegan or vegetarian diets arent good for type 1 diabetics?
Is there a meal plan?
Great advice, especially regarding Dr. Richard Bernstein. Look for Bernsteins videos on YT. Or just order his book Diabetes Revolution. Hes the original low carb guy for T1 (&T2). Hes 84, has T1, and still has a practice treating diabetics! He fought with the medical system when he started researching his illness, figured it all out, got all the blowback youd expect, and decided to go to medical school so that they couldnt say But youre not even a doctor. He also was responsible for bringing the glucose monitor to the people instead of the doctors. Hes an amazing guy. Props to Dr. Berry for mentioning him and linking his book.
Sent to all my family and friends. Thank you Dr. Berry, I respect you more for admitting you were giving bad information in the past ( following the medical guidelines you were tought), but when we know better, we do better. Thanks again for making the right choice to save lives
My wife is a caregiver not a minimum wage worker taking care of the one’s in a nursing home. You could of rephrase that. It’s a lot of unrecognized work caregivers do.
im not a diabetic but my last a1c was 5.6 is that not good either?
Hello and thank for this special video .you help me so much. Im from Greece , Im in keto 2 years ago. i suffer from diabet type 1 , Addisons deseace, and multiple sclerosis. The fact is that i had three outbreaks in the brain but in the new MRI scan we found only one,the other two disappeared. That is a good reason for me to stay in ketosis like a life style and not like a diet to lose weight. My diabet is in a better evolution cause i never get over the limit. my blood sugar is always under 100.i think that life style save my Life. my weight is 49 kilos and height 160cm. i never cared about my weight but everything is controlled in my Life. My questions is.. for how long can we stay in keto diet , Many doctors in Greece dont accept this situation, but for me its a miracle. Thank for your time and sorry for my bad English language!!!
I am type 2 diabetic is keto diet is safe , reply please age 32 male.
Dr. Ken,
I decided to stop seeing my regular doctor because she basically said that keto will ruin me, at that time my sugars were 500-600… I stopped all my medications, and Im on my second week of keto, my fasting has dropped from 500 to 260…alot of improvement, Im not at the normal range yet, but this diet, works way better than any pill or injection shes given me
Im a type 2 diabetic. Im on metformin and a statin. Can I still safely go on a ketogenic diet without stopping these. I dont see my doctor until 4 months.
Please give an example of a ketogenic meal.
Dr. Berry, you saved my life with your straight talk on diabetes, keto, and resources like Dr. Fung. My A1c went from 12.9 in August to 5.9 in Jan. My Dr was amazed and said it was the biggest drop he’d ever seen in that amount of time. Lost over 12lbs in same time frame….keto and intermittent fasting. I told him all the diet advice I’d ever gotten from Drs had been a lie and I now KNOW I am allergic to carbs & sugar – I suggested he follow you and Dr Fung. Shocking that my previous doc had not checked my A1c even though he was managing my thyroid problems. Keep spreading your wisdom and truth!
Two months ago we went full keto diet with husband type 2 diabetes. He is now off insulin, glimipride gone and only metformin. Totally shocked at the results. Working slowly on the metformin. Well see what happens. Has also lost weight . Fabulous diet
Wow how refreshing a physician who actually uses the socratic method. Im sure the American Medical Association would like to administer some poison to any physician who speaks the truth.
Thank you Dr. Berry, you most likely saved me from a horrible outcome caused by my T2 diadetes.
